The Tasman Rugby Union was officially formed in December 2005 as an amalgamation of the Nelson Bays and Marlborough rugby unions. This was done primarily to field a team - The Tasman Makos - in New Zealand's premier provincial rugby competition in 2006 (now the ITM Cup).
As a national provincial union, Tasman RU is able to offer greater resources to coaches and players and administrators to provide pathways for higher representative honours and careers in professional rugby.
Tasman RU is overseen by a Board of Directors and maintains offices in both Nelson (03) 548 7030 & Blenheim (03) 578 4070. To email please use first name (dot) lastname @tasmanrugby.co.nz
