CEO Chat with Tony Lewis

In late 2017, the TRU Board instructed the CEO and Community Rugby team to review junior rugby within the region. The review was extensive and identified that we needed to concentrate on Coach Education as a key area for development.

E’stel Tasman Trophy - Round 4 Matches

Round 4 of the E’stel Tasman Trophy will feature a double header on Trafalgar Park with Wanderers playing Marist at 1.15pm, followed by Nelson and Stoke at 3pm. Other matches are at Cooks Reserve Riwaka, Seddon Domain and Renwick Domain. Get along and watch our future Mako in action.

TRU videos to boost Rugby's coaching resources

TRU rugby development officer Mark Cochrane said the videos provide an easy, visual way for coaches to gain an understanding of the activities and to utilise them in their coaching sessions.

The E’stel Tasman Trophy has an international feel in 2019. The Tasman Rugby Union entered in a commercial relationship with Kintetsu Liners who are a Japanese rugby club currently competing in the Top Challenge League. Hanaozono Rugby Stadium, Kintetsu’s home ground, is set to host four Rugby World Cup games in 2019.

Tasman HP squad named for Hawke's Bay pre-season match

The Tasman High Performance squad has been named to play a pre season game against Hawkes Bay on Wednesday, 15th May. The first training is on Monday, 15th April at 6.30pm in Nelson.

Te Tauihu Maori coaching positions available

Teams will compete at the annual Te Waipounamu Tournament held in Invercargill on the 12th October. The Coaches will play an active role in developing players from Whakatū (Nelson Bays) and Wairau (Marlborough), in August and September prior to Te Waipounamu Tournament.

E’stel Tasman Trophy - Rd 6 fixtures & Rd 5 results

Round 6 of the E’stel Tasman Trophy will take place over two days starting with Central versus Waitohi on Lansdowne Park, Thursday 18 April at 7pm. Three other matches will take place this Thursday:

The TRU Board nominated Max Spence to be the NZ Rugby’s Vice President at their AGM on Thursday 17 April. The nomination was supported by all South Island Provincial Unions and he was unanimously elected.
Max, a Tasman and Nelson rugby stalwart and the man credited with bringing the Mako to life is now one of New Zealand's highest-ranking rugby officers.

Round 7 of the E’stel Tasman Trophy will take place this Saturday 27 of April at 3pm. Nelson will receive Waitohi on Neale Park while Stoke will be hosting East Coast on Greenmeadows for the first time this season. Wanderers versus Renwick on Brightwater Domain, Waimea Old Boys versus Moutere on Jubilee Park and Marist versus Central on Tahunanui are the other matches of this sixth round. East Coast, new holders of the John Goodman Challenge Trophy. The E’stel Tasman Trophy has reached the halfway point and there are seven teams with a chance of being in the semi-finals.


Marist and Waimea Old Boys are set for an almighty clash on Saturday as both sides kept their unbeaten records alive in the E'stel Tasman Trophy at the weekend. Both Waitohi and East Coast will want to consolidate their positions in the top 4 against Moutere and Central away. Kahurangi, fresh off the bye will be looking to stay in touch with the leaders when hosting Nelson.
