In Marlborough, Renwick underlined the fact they will be a threat in this season's NPD Tasman Trophy and Marlborough premier rugby competitions with a 45-13 win over defending local champions Central on Saturday. Moutere accounted for East Coast 39-15 and Waitohi got the better of Harlequins 39-21.

The Tasman Makos have a very good draw with 3 Sunday daytime matches among our 5 home games. The season will open with a 2016 Premiership Final re-play when we host Canterbury in Nelson.

Marlborough Boys College earned an invaluable 20 – 17 win over Burnside HS in Christchurch, while Waimea Combined Schools travelled to Hanmer, losing to Timaru Boys 29 -17.

Finals action in The Car Company Nelson Bays competition saw Wanderers just get over Marist to claim back to back Division 1 titles, Collingwood overcame Riwaka in the mud at home to claim the Division 2 title and the Marist senior women ran down Motueka High School Girls at the death to claim the Tasman Women’s trophy.
