The privilege of being the CEO of the Tasman Rugby Union includes the opportunity at times to be involved in meetings, discussions and presentations around player depth charts, recruitment and contract possibilities for players at the Tasman Makos and also at the Crusaders and the Crusaders Academy - Tasman.


After several upsets over the Easter weekend in the NPD Tasman Trophy there are seven (7) teams within a match of a place in the final series, added to the mix is a Central team finding some form in the last two matches.


Nelson club showed both flair and indiscretion in their 55 – 7 win over Kahurangi, scoring nine tries to one but also conceding three yellow cards. Stoke battled hard all day against Marist, finally succumbing 23 – 29 in an entertaining game, while Waimea Old Boys accounted for Wanderers 39 – 28.

Senior Competition Reviews

In Marlborough, Renwick underlined the fact they will be a threat in this season's NPD Tasman Trophy and Marlborough premier rugby competitions with a 45-13 win over defending local champions Central on Saturday. Moutere accounted for East Coast 39-15 and Waitohi got the better of Harlequins 39-21.

This weekend’s senior club rugby results reflect the hard work of all the stakeholders in club rugby. The desire from the TRU is for a meaningful competition where there is strength in depth and all matches are competitive.

2017 Mitre 10 Cup Draw announced

The Tasman Makos have a very good draw with 3 Sunday daytime matches among our 5 home games. The season will open with a 2016 Premiership Final re-play when we host Canterbury in Nelson.

UC Championship

Marlborough Boys College earned an invaluable 20 – 17 win over Burnside HS in Christchurch, while Waimea Combined Schools travelled to Hanmer, losing to Timaru Boys 29 -17.
