Top female rugby players get high performance programme

In conjunction with New Zealand Rugby, Tasman Rugby Union has rolled out its inaugural women's High Performance Development programme with a main objective of creating a world-class pathway for aspiring female rugby players to become well-rounded athletes and rugby players.

All five Round 3 E’stel Tasman Trophy fixtures are being played in Marlborough with Nelson clubs visiting Seddon, Renwick, Lansdowne Park, Spring Creek and Picton. This is a great chance for fans there to get to a nearby park and watch #FutureMako in action.

Round 2 of the E’stel Tasman Trophy was a great weekend of rugby. While early in the season the standard or the skills can be a little rusty, one can ever question the player’s commitment, desire and passion for the game of Rugby and, most importantly, for their club.

E'stel Tasman Trophy Rd 2 Wrap Up

Waitohi and Central became the first Marlborough teams to claim wins in this season’s E’stel Tasman Trophy competition, Waitohi downing Renwick 43-26 at Endeavour Park while at Awarua Park, home side Moutere were beaten 41-19 by Central.

In a double header on Trafalgar Park, Waimea Old Boys eased past Stoke 27-25 , and Wanderers got up 26-22 over Nelson. Over at Sports Park Motueka, Marist beat Kahurangi 57-0.

Last weekend all five of the cross-over matches played across the top of the south were won by Nelson-based opponents.

The aftermath of the horrific events in Christchurch last Friday made club rugby a sombre occasion. I congratulate all the clubs, players, coaches and referees who acknowledged, prayed for and grieved with our Muslim brothers and sisters in this time of absolute shock with a moments silence before all Tasman Trophy matches. Rugby in the top of the south is an inclusive sport for all people who live in our region.
