Jo MacLean is our trusted Competitions & Operations Administrator. Totally outnumbered, she manages to hold her own in the TRU office and is one of the longer serving members of staff. Which is to say she knows where a lot of the skeletons are.

A large crowd at Trafalgar Park witnessed an epic NPD Tasman Trophy Final on Monday afternoon. All even at 21-all after 80 minutes, the match went into 20 minutes extra time, before Waimea Old Boys clinched victory over Nelson with the final play of the game, 31 - 28.

It is my belief that over the last three years the cross-regional NPD Tasman Trophy has produced skillful and passionate grassroots rugby of the highest order. It has become the pinnacle competition for the coaches to eye players when selecting the Tasman Makos squad and last year this competition produced 14 Makos players.

NPD Tasman Trophy Final on Monday

One semi-final was decided by half-time and the other was as good a game of senior club rugby you could wish to see. Nelson played a dominant 35 - 0 first half to go on and went on to defeat Moutere 43 - 10, with prop Isaac Salmon scoring 3 tries.

Meet our staff

Jimmy Holden is our Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for both the Crusaders Academy based in Nelson, and for the Tasman Makos. He comes to us from the Taniwha team up north and is fitting in nicely down at the gym and around the office.

1st XV Rugby

Waimea Combined Schools have caused a local derby boil over with their comprehensive defeat of Nelson College 1st XV on Saturday.

The month of May is the most exciting time for Tasman rugby having spent the last two months preparing for the first week of JAB and Age group rugby. On Saturday’s I can hear the sounds of early morning rugby (referee whistles and parental support) from my house near Neale Park. I watch some games with my daughter as a number of our staff have young children playing.
