There are many players who are on the verge of Tasman under 19, Griffins, Red Devils or Tasman Makos selection wanting to maintain their form and push themselves into the selectors reckoning at this time of the year.

1st XV Rugby

Timaru Boys' College visit to Blenheim resulted in 22-7 victory over the home side, Marlborough Boys College. Waimea Combined Schools landed a last-minute penalty goal to secure a 22-20 home UC Championship win at Waimea College. Conversely, a late penalty goal gave Christchurch BHS a 13-11 result over Nelson College in Christchurch.

Senior Competition Reviews

Kahurangi reversed a first-round loss at the hands of Nelson with a deserved 29–27 win over the Car Company Nelson Bays Div 1 leaders. Wanderers' outplayed Waimea Old Boys for a 54-7 victory that now leaves them just two points adrift of Nelson in second place, while Marist stepped up to beat Stoke 37-30 to consolidate their semi-finals spot.

The adage “rugby was the winner” is one many Kiwi rugby enthusiasts would have said after that magnificent All Black & Lions display on the weekend. The quality of the game, the event spectacle and the British & Irish fans boost to the Auckland economy were all factors to admire.

On their home front field, Nelson College overcame a fast St Bedes start to run away with a comprehensive 64 – 17 win. In Blenheim, committed and scrambling defence, plus the ability to absorb pressure, allowed Marlborough Boys College to prevail over Rangiora HS 27 - 14.

Senior Competition Reviews

Victories to the Marlborough's leading three clubs - Moutere, Renwick and Waitohi - saw them extend their healthy points advantage at the head of the Wadsco Motorworld Division 1 standings. Moutere accounted for Wast Coast 54 -12, Renwick sneaked in 13 – 10 over Central, while Waitohi ran away from Harlequins 59 – 10.

There is nothing worse than hearing someone say “back in my day”! Well, I am heading down that line to explain the 2017 coaching structure. I can remember like it was yesterday being named in the Otago NPC team to play Southland in the big local derby. The part I remember most was the quality of the coaching. We had two ex All Blacks in Laurie Mains and Lyn Jaffray. They really knew their rugby.

Both Waimea Old Boys and Nelson fell victim to Monday's exhausting NPD Tasman Trophy final after both suffered losses in The Car Company Nelson Bays senior competition to Marist and Stoke respectively. Wanderers scored a last minute try to beat Kahurangi.
