CEO Chat with Tony Lewis

This year the TRU with the NZR has introduced the Blue Card Concussion Procedure in Community Rugby, to ensure players that sustain a concussion receive sufficient medical treatment before returning to rugby. We realise that for this procedure to be credible, the support of all health care providers across our region is vital. This procedure was implemented from March 2017 to all grades from 1st XV and above.

First Makos trials teams announced

Following on from the success of internal trials in 2016, squads have been selected for the Buccaneers and Musseleers teams to play on Wednesday 17 May.

The weekend’s round 6 matches saw the commencement of crossover matches amongst the Marlborough and Nelson Bays clubs. Moutere, Nelson, Waitohi and Wanderers scored important away wins, while Marist and Stoke won at home.

After several upsets over the Easter weekend in the NPD Tasman Trophy there are seven (7) teams within a match of a place in the final series, added to the mix is a Central team finding some form in the last two matches.

The age group and JAB rugby season is about to start in the coming weeks, at the TRU this year we want to make sure the participants in this competition enjoy the experience of playing rugby. The behavior of adults (coaching or spectator) on the sidelines has a direct correlation to young rugby players enjoying and returning to the game the following year – FACT.

SENIOR COMPETITION REVIEWS

Nelson club showed both flair and indiscretion in their 55 – 7 win over Kahurangi, scoring nine tries to one but also conceding three yellow cards. Stoke battled hard all day against Marist, finally succumbing 23 – 29 in an entertaining game, while Waimea Old Boys accounted for Wanderers 39 – 28.

At the 11th AGM of the Tasman Rugby Union, held in Blenheim on Monday evening 10 April 2017, the Tasman Rugby Union presented its Annual report for the year ended 31 December 2016.

Senior Competition Reviews

In Marlborough, Renwick underlined the fact they will be a threat in this season's NPD Tasman Trophy and Marlborough premier rugby competitions with a 45-13 win over defending local champions Central on Saturday. Moutere accounted for East Coast 39-15 and Waitohi got the better of Harlequins 39-21.
