CEO Chat with Tony Lewis

One of the great memories of rugby when growing up is the effort put in with friends and parents to fundraise for a tour. A group of 13-14 year old players and their families have been doing just that with games scheduled in Nadi and Suva later this month. In addition the tour party will get to watch the Chiefs play the Crusaders in a first of a kind Super match in Suva.

UC Championship

A mid-week regional derby match between hosts Marlborough Boys College and Nelson College lived up to its hype, with a last minute break away converted try to the visitors securing a 22-all draw. As holders Nelson College retained the Whangamoa Trophy.

NPD Tasman Trophy

A great regional senior club competition culminated with Nelson securing the NPD Tasman Trophy against a gallant Wanderers club.

The NPD Tasman Trophy Grand Final on Queens Birthday Monday was Club rugby at its best with test match intensity. The game went down to the wire with the lead changing hands numerous times in the second half and key players stepping up to keep their club in the game. The final score of 18-15 to Nelson reflected their dominance of possession and territory throughout the whole of the first half and key second half moments.

NPD TASMAN TROPHY

The NPD Tasman Trophy Final will be played this Monday 6 June at 3pm between Wanderers and Nelson clubs. The match will be played at Trafalgar Park.

UC Championship

Wet weather brought about the postponement until 27 July of the much anticipated local derby between Nelson College and Waimea Combined Schools. Marlborough Boys College travelled to St Andrew’s College and, despite dominating, had to be content with a 10-all draw.

NPD Tasman Trophy

On the final weekend of round robin NPD Tasman Trophy rugby the four semi-final teams have been decided. Disappointing one-point losses for both Stoke and Waimea Old Boys catapulted Spring Creek’s Moutere club into fourth spot, joining Wanderers, Marist and Nelson to contest the semi-finals this Wednesday night.

Liam Squire becomes our first home grown All Black

Liam Squire first arrived to play club rugby in Tasman in 2011 as a youthful but strapping backrow forward down from Palmerston North. His impact on a game was obvious even then, instinctively being in the right place at the right time in both attack and defence.

he NPD Tasman Trophy round robin went down to the wire on Saturday afternoon where we had six teams fighting for the last two places in the final series. There were a number of close games decided by a point which meant that Nelson secured third and Moutere came from eighth for secure the last semi-final spot, joining Wanderers and Marist clubs.

UC Championship

Playing at Trafalgar Park for their first match at home, Nelson College drew with fellow powerhouse 1st XV, Christchurch Boys High School 6-all. Waimea Combined Schools made the long trek to Ashburton College and will be well satisfied to come home with a 4 tries to 3, 27 – 21 victory. Marlborough Boys College travelled to Shirley Boys High where staunch defence by the local side resulted in a narrow 7 -8 loss for MBC.
