Marlborough Boys' College 1st XV opened their 2019 Unviversity of Canterbury championship campaign in emphatic style with a 52-8 win over Mid-Canterbury Combined in Ashburton.
The MBC side, fresh from a pre-season win over Wellington College, opened tghe scoring in teh first minute and score regularly throughout.
They led 24-8 at halftime and shut Mid-Canterbury out of the game in the second spell. Pick of the MBC side were flanker Sky Boskett-Barnes, fullback Keelan Murrell, prop Manu Moli and No 8 Andre Hebberb.

Waimea Combined Schools season got off to a rough start on Friday when they hosted St Thomas Canterbury College in the the UC Cup, going down 43-12.
St Thomas were the first to score when they burst through the defensive line 2 minutes into the game.
Waimea’s first points came in the 16th minute when a strong Jonah Girrbach, on debut, muscled his way over the line under the posts. Macca Springer nudged the conversion over.
St Thomas went into the break 17-7 after scoring two more tries.
Waimea’s only scoring play in the second half came when Clay Morgan intercepted a long pass and ran half the field to score in the corner, with the conversion unsuccessful.
Jeen Salton, and Jonah Girrbach both hand stand out performances, while Josh Miles and Lucas Hall both had great cameos off the bench.

Waimea host Mid Canterbury Combined this weekend at 12pm at Garin College.

Nelson College travelled to St Andrew's College, going down 33-31 in a tight fixture. College secured 2 bonus points in the narrow loss.
