The Marlborough Boys’ College First XV
rugby team have edged their way into the top four on the University of
Canterbury championship table.
The Falcons scored a 47-12 win over
Waimea Combined in Nelson on Saturday, scoring seven tries during a comprehensive
display which keeps them firmly in the mix for a top tier play-off position.
After last week’s loss to Rangiora, MBC
bounced back in style against Waimea, who have beaten Roncalli and Mid
Canterbury combined sides so far this year and pushed both St Bede’s and St
Andrew’s hard.
Halfback Ethan Jones and No 8 Jaydn
Holdaway both scored two tries, the others going to Lotu Solomona, Ethan Kahui
and Ollie Lawson. Keelan Murrell landed five conversions and Dylan McManaway
one.
Next week MBC take on Lincoln Combined
in Blenheim, a pivotal game against a side sitting one place, and just three
points, ahead of them.

Waimea Combined Schools went down 47 - 12 to Marlborough Boys College on Saturday at Waimea college. The Baabaas came out strong and drew first blood when Cam Rodrigue found space down the left hand side. However weak defence allowed Marlborough Boys to score 33 unanswered points to go into the half 33 - 5 up.
Waimea scored first after halftime through some ball skill brilliance which was finished off by Duncan Drysdale. But relentless attack from Marlborough Boys turned out to be too much for the Waimea men with Marlborough Boys turning in two more tries.
Final score 47- 12
Waimea hosts Christchurch Boys High School next weekend at 12pm.
The away match for Nelson College against Christ's College in Christchurch was postponed due to unfit state of the playing field.
