Awatere Fundraiser

The match on Thursday 10 August will serve as both a pre-season workout for the Makos and Lions, and as a fundraiser for the Awatere clubrooms re-build.

Meet our staff

Rich Harris is our Rugby Development Officer based in Blenheim, responsible for community rugby in Marlborough. He has been a club rugby player for Harlequins and is playing this year for Marlborough Old Boys. He is passionate about what the Marlborough Sounds has to offer.

1st XV Rugby

Nelson College and Waimea Combined Schools each posted a half century of points in easing to big wins in Saturday's secondary schools 1st XV rugby action. Marlborough Boys' College made their higher-placed rivals, Christ’s College, battle to the end before succumbing 21-21

Senior Competition Reviews

Nelson have finished top qualifiers after a tense 36-33 The Car Company Nelson Bays division one club rugby win over Wanderers at Brightwater on Saturday. Nelson will now host Marist in next week's semi-finals, with Wanderers at home to Waimea Old Boys after Kahurangi and Stoke.

Last weekend and this Saturday night we had the Makos team management working overtime with the Makos squad players and meeting potential long term Makos players and their families. I was surprised when one of the group informed me yesterday that some supporters had offered some well-meaning advice, that they believed that the Makos team had become too corporate and were in danger of losing the community.

Meet our staff

Martyn Vercoe doubles as our Sponsorship Manager in Marlborough during the “off season”, and as the manager of the Tasman Makos during our Mitre 10 Cup campaign. We were also proud of his appointment as the team manager of the NZ Under 20’s team that won the recent World Championship in Georgia.

1st XV Rugby

Nelson College won the Quadrangular Tournament with a comprehensive 29 – 5 victory in the Final against Christ’s College on the Front Field yesterday. Nelson College made the Final on the back of a 24 – 5 win over heavyweights Wellington College on Monday. Christ’s College had defeated Wanganui Collegiate 13 - 7 in Monday’s other fixture.

Moutere consolidated top spot with a narrow 21 – 20 win over second placed Renwick in the Wadsco Motorworld Marlborough division 1 comp. East Coast upset Waitohi 36 – 25 in Picton, while Central soundly beat Harlequins 36 - 3
