Marlborough rugby season preview [Marlborough Express]

There are three distinct parts to Marlborough's senior club rugby season which kicks off at various venues around the province tomorrow.
The opening round of the Marlborough competition is played over a full round between the competing clubs - Moutere, Waitohi, Awatere, Renwick, Harlequins and Central. That's followed by the Tasman Trophy combined Marlborough/Nelson premier grade competition, played over a full round from May 5. During that competition, derby matches between Marlborough clubs will count towards second round Marlborough competition points with the Tasman Trophy semifinals and finals scheduled for June 22-29 respectively. The Marlborough second round concludes with three more round-robin matches leading to semifinals on July 20 and grand finals day on July 27. While the Marlborough Sub-Union representative programme is still to be confirmed, Marlborough Rugby operations manager Gareth Waldron is planning a six-match campaign, if everything falls into place.
