As we enter the month of July, normally the senior club rugby competitions begin winding up and our focus shifts to the Finals, representative rugby and the finalisation of our Mighty Mako squad.

It’s quite remarkable, given all that our community experienced as a result of Covid-19, that here we are in Te Tauihu and throughout the country getting out and about enjoying recreation as though the effort and commitment by all over the past several weeks was just a dream. But a dream it was not. It was a quite stressful time for so many families, and for business owners and leaders, so I must acknowledge all our Sponsors and Members who have committed to the TRU at this time.

Referee News

NM Health assist Associate Referees program. The Tasman Rugby Referees welcome the support of the Nelson Marlborough Health’s Tap Into Water initiative in providing highly visible bibs for its Associate Referees, those volunteers who keep Saturday morning rugby alive and well at JAB and age grade level.

Men's Club Rugby

Moutere claimed a notable scalp in the Wadsco Motorworld Marlborough division 1 competition on Saturday, downing reigning club premiers Waitohi 36-31 in Picton. In the second match Central did just enough to hold off the Awatere in Seddon, maintaining the Blues’ unbeaten record.

Women's Club Rugby

In round 2 of the Golden Bay Fruit Senior Women’s competition, the scores were a little lop sided as defending premiers Waimea OB accounted for Riwaka 50-5 at Jubilee Park, while a strong Wanderers side held Moutere scoreless in a 42-0 win at Brightwater.

Thank you to all our Rugby Volunteers. Over the weekend I had time to consider the impact volunteers have within the rugby community. Rugby within the region would not survive without this incredible hard-working group of volunteers. When a crucial volunteer stands down, clubs struggle to replace them on and off the field until the next committed volunteer steps forward.
