There is nothing like Grand-Final week for those teams who make it to the big dance. This week is very special for the clubs, coaches and for those players lucky enough to participate in a Final, especially this year. I hope all teams enjoy the experience and leave nothing on the pitch. This weekend we have some intriguing battles in both the Wadsco Motorworld Marlborough and The Car Company Nelson Bays competitions.

JAB & Age Grade Rugby commences this weekend - The best part of the year when I was a young lad was the start of the rugby season. Whether it was as a 7 year old, 13 year old or 1st XV player, the excitement was the same – I could not wait for game day.

Thank you to all our Rugby Volunteers. Over the weekend I had time to consider the impact volunteers have within the rugby community. Rugby within the region would not survive without this incredible hard-working group of volunteers. When a crucial volunteer stands down, clubs struggle to replace them on and off the field until the next committed volunteer steps forward.

Moutere claimed a notable scalp in the Wadsco Motorworld Marlborough division 1 competition on Saturday, downing reigning club premiers Waitohi 36-31 in Picton. In the second match Central did just enough to hold off the Awatere in Seddon, maintaining the Blues’ unbeaten record.

It’s quite remarkable, given all that our community experienced as a result of Covid-19, that here we are in Te Tauihu and throughout the country getting out and about enjoying recreation as though the effort and commitment by all over the past several weeks was just a dream. But a dream it was not. It was a quite stressful time for so many families, and for business owners and leaders, so I must acknowledge all our Sponsors and Members who have committed to the TRU at this time.

The Golden Bay Fruit Senior Women’s competition got underway with newcomers Riwaka, featuring Black Fern Seven first five Risi Pouri-Lane, defeating Wanderers 17-10 and Moutere getting the better of Central 50-0.
