Waimea defeated Riwaka 29-10 after leading 14-0 at halftime. Coach Tom Williams said his side was guilty of some silly errors and were ill disciplined at times but given the number of new players and those playing out of position on Saturday he was pleased with the effort. Fullback Eve Findlay scored a try and kicked three conversions and a penalty with five eighth Bethan Manners dotted down twice and made sure her side played the game in the right areas.
In the other game Moutere got out to an early lead and took a 14 point buffer into halftime before Wanderers stormed back to tie the game before a late Moutere try saw them claim a 19-14 win.
Coach Paul Kahui was delighted with the heart his side showed after they lost five players through injury and had to play with 14 for the final hour. Standouts included Hannah Gillespie, Niska Scott, Raumati Rogers, Pippa Andrews and Maiden Tupara.
