Wow, what a great weekend for rugby on the first Saturday in May, highlighted by the start of JAB and Age Group rugby. I remember back to this age, as I'm sure many of you do, and the absolute joy of the first game of the season. My grandfather would be telling me to dress and look like a rugby player as that might fool the opposition.

E’STEL TASMAN TROPHY - RD 8 FIXTURES & RD 7 RESULTS

Marist and Waimea Old Boys are set for an almighty clash on Saturday as both sides kept their unbeaten records alive in the E'stel Tasman Trophy at the weekend. Both Waitohi and East Coast will want to consolidate their positions in the top 4 against Moutere and Central away. Kahurangi, fresh off the bye will be looking to stay in touch with the leaders when hosting Nelson.

East Coast, new holders of the John Goodman Challenge Trophy. The E’stel Tasman Trophy has reached the halfway point and there are seven teams with a chance of being in the semi-finals.

E’stel Tasman Trophy - Rd 6 fixtures & Rd 5 results

Round 6 of the E’stel Tasman Trophy will take place over two days starting with Central versus Waitohi on Lansdowne Park, Thursday 18 April at 7pm. Three other matches will take place this Thursday:

The 13th Tasman Rugby Union AGM was held on Monday April 8 in Blenheim.

E’stel Tasman Trophy - Rd 5 fixtures & Rd 4 results

Round 5 of the E’stel Tasman Trophy will again feature a double header on Trafalgar Park with Waimea Old Boys hosting Renwick at 1.15pm, followed by Nelson versus Central at 3pm. Other matches are in Marlborough at Cooks Reserve Endeavour Field, Seddon Domain and Awarua Park. Get along and watch our future Mako in action.

The E’stel Tasman Trophy has an international feel in 2019. The Tasman Rugby Union entered in a commercial relationship with Kintetsu Liners who are a Japanese rugby club currently competing in the Top Challenge League. Hanaozono Rugby Stadium, Kintetsu’s home ground, is set to host four Rugby World Cup games in 2019.

In late 2017, the TRU Board instructed the CEO and Community Rugby team to review junior rugby within the region. The review was extensive and identified that we needed to concentrate on Coach Education as a key area for development.

All five Round 3 E’stel Tasman Trophy fixtures are being played in Marlborough with Nelson clubs visiting Seddon, Renwick, Lansdowne Park, Spring Creek and Picton. This is a great chance for fans there to get to a nearby park and watch #FutureMako in action.
