Nelson club rugby: Quality, not quantity, this year [Nelson Mail]

Less is more - potentially, at least. If there's to be any significant upside to this season's downsized Car Company Nelson Bays division one club rugby competition, which starts tomorrow, it's that quality will hopefully trump quantity. This season's competition has been reduced from seven to five teams after the Motueka-based Huia and Riwaka clubs combined their dwindling division one resources to form the Kahurangi Hawks and a similar lack of player depth forced the Marist club to withdraw their top side

Walter was made a life member of his beloved Awatere Rugby Club for services over a long period of time in several capacities, but in particular as a player and coach.

Marist fail to muster top team [Nelson Mail]

A raft of player losses has forced the Marist Rugby Football Club to withdraw its senior team from this season's Nelson Bays and Tasman Trophy club competitions. The shock decision has been forced on the Nelson club following the loss of about 12 players from last year's senior squad, due to injuries, defections to rugby league, transfers to other clubs or provinces, and unavailability due to work commitments.
