Community rugby to kick off without restrictions

Level 1 now allows community rugby to return without restrictions. Clubs, schools and community rugby providers are encouraged to continue to implement contact tracing measures and hygiene protocols throughout Alert Level 1. Anyone feeling sick should stay away from all rugby activity.

Rugby begins preparation phase for return of community game

Rugby clubs around the country can start a three-stage approach to getting back on the grass with training potentially beginning later this month.

Today’s (13 May) announcement from New Zealand Rugby (NZR) follows the Government’s confirmation that community sport can resume with certain hygiene and distancing measures in place during COVID-19 Alert Level 2.

June 13 return for Club rugby is possible

A meeting to discuss pans for the season will take place on Tuesday night, with an eye to returning to play by June 13 for premier and possibly Division Two club rugby. Tasman Rugby Union chief executive Tony Lewis said work was underway to establish return to play guidelines and event management at the region's grounds, while working with clubs to "work out the best systems" following health guidelines for level two.
